NOTE:
These are not Law Enforcement positions. Park Rangers support the Bureau's recreation program. They work with the public to provide information, conduct permit compliance, and safety inspections. Other duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
responding to emergency situations; evaluating visitor use patterns, preparing and maintaining recreation sites, and monitoring condition of sites and natural and cultural resources; ensuring compliance with rules and regulations pertaining to parking, campfires, noise level, sanitation, and safety; bringing problems or violations to the attention of visitors; and, if appropriate, issuing notices of violations; preparing recreation areas/sites for visitor use, to include planning, operation, and required maintenance. Overseeing fee collection activities, maintaining records on and accounting for funds, and submitting deposits; performing road, traffic, trail, lake, boundary, and/or hunting patrol; conducting inventories and ordering of supplies for office or visitor information purposes, performing routine and sometimes, complex facility maintenance and/or repairs; installing and maintaining various types of signage on public lands, such as off road vehicle, wilderness, portal, boundary, directional road and trail, and interpretive signage. Other like duties as assigned. Physical/Working Conditions:
Work may take place in extremely remote environments and may require primitive camping and living skills for upwards of two weeks in duration. The work is performed outdoors in rugged terrain; to include very steep, wet, muddy, rough, uneven or rocky surfaces; positions require physical exertions, such as, bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities. Individuals should be capable of working alone, or with other people, during early morning hours, night, or during the day. You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement. GS-5 Park Ranger - one full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-4 level. Examples of specialized experience may include explaining regulations to park visitors; assists in advising visitors concerning safety, fire prevention and amenities available; assists with issuing reservations and permits; or assists with monitoring special recreation permits. -OR- Education:
Successful completion of four year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with at least 24 semester hours of related course work. -OR- A combination of experience and education:
You may meet qualification requirements for this position by combining specialized experience and appropriate undergraduate education. GS-7 Park Ranger - one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to GS-5 level. Examples of specialized experience may include management, assistant, or program specialist work involving the development and implementation of policy related to protection, conservation, or management of park areas or similar operations; planning day to day operation of a recreation area providing activities/facilities as camping, water sports, or picnic areas, or coordinating routine activities with maintenance personnel; advising visitors concerning safety, fire prevention, and proper and authorized uses of recreational facilities; and collecting fees. -OR- Education:
Successful completion of one full academic year of graduate education related to the occupation (i.e. related course work) or superior academic achievement. -OR- A combination of experience and education:
You may meet qualification requirements for this position by combining specialized experience and appropriate graduate education. Related Course Work -- natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science related to the protection of public lands, social sciences, museum sciences, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. Course work in fields other than those specified may be accepted if it clearly relates to the duties performed by a Park Ranger.Specialized
Experience:
Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
